The signals that show up before a pump
Social velocity, holder growth, dev wallet behavior, and the other measurable things that tend to move before price does.
Price is the last thing to move. Before it, there is almost always a trail of measurable activity. None of these signals is reliable alone; the useful pattern is several of them clustering on the same token in a short window.
Social velocity
The raw number of mentions matters less than the rate of change. A token going from two mentions an hour to sixty is a stronger signal than a token sitting steadily at two hundred. Velocity spikes on X and Telegram tend to lead price by minutes; Reddit threads tend to lag but confirm. Watch for acceleration, not volume.
Who is talking, not just how many
A hundred bot accounts posting the same ticker is noise, and it is common: engagement farming around new mints is an industry. What matters is when accounts with real, older followings pick a token up organically, and when the phrasing varies instead of repeating a template. Amplifier quality beats mention count.
Holder growth and distribution
On-chain, healthy early interest looks like a rising count of distinct holders with no single wallet dominating. A token where the top handful of wallets hold most of the supply can be pumped, but it can also be ended by one seller. Steady holder growth with flat price is the classic accumulation fingerprint.
Dev and insider wallet behavior
The wallets that minted the token, and those funded from the same source, are public. Watch what they do, not what the account says. Devs quietly adding liquidity or locking tokens is one kind of signal. Devs moving tokens to exchanges is another. Sudden silence from a previously active deployer wallet often precedes a move in either direction.
Liquidity depth versus attention
A pump needs fuel and a thin tank. When attention arrives at a token whose pool is shallow, small buys move price violently, which is what makes the candle everyone screenshots. Comparing the attention curve against pool depth tells you whether ignition is mechanically possible.
The honest caveat
Every one of these signals produces false positives daily. Clustering helps; speed helps more; position sizing and hard exits help most. Treat any single indicator, including a confidence score, as an input to a decision you own.
Nothing here is investment advice.
